Honda targets Constructors' Championship

Honda is hopeful of securing the F1 Constructors' World Championship after revealing its decision to buy-out the BAR team.

Shareholders and founders of British American Tobacco (BAT) have agreed that Honda will be the sole owners of the team from the start of next year's grand prix season.

It is expected that Honda, who previously controlled just 45 per cent of BAR, will therefore complete in the World Championship Series with its own team, with the aim of winning the constructors' title.

The F1 team will remain at its UK base in Brackley, Northamptonshire in partnership with Honda Racing Development in Bracknell, Berkshire.

"From next season, we will be even more energetic in our Formula One activities, working hard as a team in order to improve our technology, develop our young engineers and achieve our goal of winning the World Championship," said Hiroshi Oshima, operating officer of corporate communications and motor sports at Honda.

In September, BAR confirmed that driver Jensen Button will remain with the team for the 2006 season following extensive negotiations with rival team Williams.
