Bike insurance warning as thefts increase

The number of motorcycles getting stolen in the UK is on the rise leaving bikers facing a growing headache.

Bike insurance can be an expensive annual bill but full cover is essential to ensure that you are properly covered for accidents, vandalism and theft.

Losing a motorcycle is emotionally very difficult but not getting a decent insurance pay out in return is even worse.

Riders in London should be on their guard as the capital tops the bike theft league. In some parts of the city the number of incidents has increased by almost a third in the last 12 months.

Other big cities are also apparently risky places to leave your bike with the likes of Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol and Leeds all getting a mention in the figures compiled by insurance provider Carole Nash Insurance Consultants.

Local authorities are now likely to come under growing pressure to provide more areas where bikes can be properly locked up.

As well as the risk of having their rides stolen, bikers in areas where the rate of theft is particularly high will also see the cost of their insurance premiums rise dramatically.

Insurance premiums are calculated partly on location so people living in some parts of London and Manchester could get a nasty surprise when it comes to renewal time.

Major cities always to carry a greater risk when it comes to all kinds of vehicle theft but there is also growing concern about rural areas of the country, which are often poorly policed.
