Fuel prices add to bike insurance costs
The rising cost of fuel is hitting motorcycle owners hard.
Along with their annual bike insurance renewal, fuel is one of the costs riders are unable to avoid paying.
And while motorcycles are relatively fuel-efficient and do not cause anywhere near the level of pollution larger vehicles are responsible for, they still pay the penalty at the pumps.
The price of unleaded petrol now costs on average 90.2p per litre while diesel is 94p per litre, according to figures released this week by price monitoring group Catalist.
The record high pump prices have been blamed on spiralling oil prices, which have continued to rise in recent weeks because of ongoing concerns about security of supply in the Middle East.

Higher petrol prices hit individual bike and car owners, but also have a negative knock-on effect for businesses.
The business community still relies on the road network to move goods and people around the country.
When motorcycle couriers, taxis and haulage firms see their costs rise they have to pass at least some of the additional expenditure onto their customers.
This eventually trickles down until consumers eventually pick up the tab - this on top of paying more for their own fuel.
Motorcyclists will not welcome this trend but they do at least enjoy some privileges over their four wheeled road companions.
The London congestion charge, which is expected to be rolled out to other major cities throughout the UK later in the future, offers motorcyclists an exemption.
If this policy is repeated in the other cities that introduce congestion charging two wheels may soon be the only way to get around.
