Foggy gambles on youngster Jones

Craig Jones has been signed up as World Super Bike (WSB) legend and team owner Carl Fogarty's newest prodigy.

The 20-year-old from Northwich has signed a one-year deal with Foggy Petronas Racing (FPR) that will see him take the saddle for the 2006 campaign.

In a short but impressive career Jones has already finished runner-up in the British Supersport championship and made some impressive stand-in appearances in World Supersport this year.

"I wanted to put someone on the bike that is hungry and willing to learn," explained Foggy.

"Craig wants to prove that he can be one of the best riders in the world and I believe he is one of the most talented riders around. Maybe I can see someone who wants to win as badly as I did."

Jones first caught Fogarty's eye at Donington last year where he managed victory despite being on a slower machine. The WSB veteran described Jones' ride as one of the most impressive performances he had seen in a long time and cited his sideways overtaking manoeuvre as "the most spectacular I have ever seen".

Fogarty's enthusiasm seems to be matched only by Jones himself who said: "I'm delighted and can't wait for this new challenge. The main attraction has to be Carl, who was one of my heroes when I started racing, and someone I aspired to emulate."

Jones will take his place alongside experienced Australian rider Steve Martin at the cost of Garry McCoy.

"I wish Garry all the best as things didn't work out well for him with our team last year," explained Fogarty.
