HA targets biker safety
The Highways Agency (HA) has launched a major new campaign to help reduce the number of motorcycle accidents that result in rider injuries and motorcycle insurance claims.
Motorbike casualty figures on England's A roads and motorways show that in 2004 adult fatalities were almost 20 per cent higher than the Highways Agency's target and are showing no downward trend.
The HA has revealed its plans to work closely with bikers and motorcycle groups to help riders stay safe.

As part of the campaign the HA has released a new DVD called Great Roads, Great Rides to help educate riders on how they can enjoy their biking while staying safe.
"We want riders to come out and enjoy the freedom and excitement that motorcycling gives, but we want them to do this safely," explained Highways Agency Road Safety Action Plan coordinator Stuart Lovatt.
"We are working to reduce accidents on our roads, but our efforts alone are not enough… working together we can achieve even greater reductions in these accidents and casualties."
In addition to the safety advice the HA also plans to work with motorcycle riders to identify and improve accident black-spots across the country.
