Ellison in Yamaha test

James Ellison's racing future is in the balance following the news he is to test for Yamaha.

UK rider James Ellison's racing future has reportedly been turned on its head with the news that he will test a factory Yamaha YZR-M1 in Sepang on November 28th.

Ellison had been poised to sign for Ducati, but Luis d'Antin has not yet announced the team's two man 2006 line-up.

Ducati's decision is apparently between Roby Rolfo, Jose Luis Cardoso and Ellison and the delayed announcement may be the result of a late bid for the British rider by Tech 3 Yamaha.

Tech 3 Yamaha team manager, Herve Poncharal, told Crash.net that Ellison will test for the team at the three-day multi-team MotoGP test later this month on the four-cylinder bike, identical to that ridden by famed seven-times world champion Valentino Rossi. If selected, he is expected to ride a similar motorcycle.

Former World Endurance champion Ellison rode for WCM this year and is also understood to have secured the backing of Dunlop following an impressive Desmosedici debut. He is expected to be the only Brit in the top flight in 2006, after Shane Byrne bowed out.

Dunlop worked with Rolfo and Ellison during 2005 and is understood to be chasing a deal with Yamaha and the Briton.
