Global bike sales continue to rise
The global bike boom looks set to continue, albeit at a slower rate, according to new research.
Market research by the Freedonia Group claims that annual growth in demand is expected to rise by 4.9 per cent every year until 2009.
That number is down from a rate of 6.8 per cent between 1999 and 2004.

The report states that there are concerns that western customer bases are aging, which is partly responsible for the expected slow down.
Recent bike restrictions in some Chinese cities, which could become widespread throughout Asian urban areas, are also expected to have a negative impact on the numbers.
On the plus side for motorcycle manufacturers, the increased implementation of congestion charging for cars and anti-car legislation in a number of western countries is turning more consumers on to the idea of purchasing a motorcycle.
As more major cities become clogged with traffic jams, experts believe that customers are viewing motorbikes as a good way of beating the delays.
Whilst sales in the UK seem to defy these figures, in Australia sales were up 8.7 per cent in September, according to a report by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.
