Knocked-down pedestrian told to pay damages
A 60-year-old pedestrian who was knocked down by a motorcyclist has been ordered to pay damages to the rider.
Margaret Halcrow's insurers will have to pay £184,728 after a judge deemed her responsible for an accident on a Shetland road.
Amy Ratter, 30, suffered a fractured forearm and collarbone, and dislocated her wrist in the collision on the A970, Lerwick to Sumburgh road, in 1998.
Ms Halcrow, who suffered lesser injuries in the collision despite stepping into the path of Ms Ratter's oncoming Yamaha 350cc motorcycle, had denied liability.

According to the Scotsman, judge Lord Hardie said: "I accepted [Ms Ratter's] version of events ... expert evidence supported her account, and 60mph was a safe speed for the prevailing conditions.
"It was not reasonable for her to anticipate Ms Halcrow would continue into the path of the motorcycle. In my opinion, the accident was caused by the sole fault of Ms Halcrow," he continued.
Ms Ratter was awarded £13,780 for her injuries and the value of the bike, with the remainder covering her loss of earnings since the accident and in the future.
Ms Ratter claims she will be never be able to return to work as a joiner.
