New motorcycle film set for release

New competition to Easy Rider and The Wild One has been announced in the motorbike film stakes.

The World's Fastest Indian, starring Anthony Hopkins, is set for release in the UK in February.

The film is based on the 1967 attempt on the land-speed record by New Zealander Burt Munro and his 1920 Indian Twin Scout machine.

Mr Munro spent his retirement rebuilding the machine with the hope of one day making it to Speed Week at Salt Lake in Utah.

Not only did the bike eventually break the land-speed record but it did so on numerous occasions.

Roger Donaldson, who in the past has made a documentary about Burt Munro, directs the film.

Motorbikes have long been used as a cinematic prop, whether it be on road movies or as 'cameos' in Hollywood blockbusters.

Typically the daredevil stunts and off-road approach mean motorbike insurance is an essential.
