Welsh crackdown on illegal motorcyclists

Police have started a crackdown on motorcyclists who have been illegally riding in fields in Wales.

Nuisance riders between Ely and St Fagans village in Cardiff have prompted repeated complaints from residents, forcing the Police to take action.

The operation was launched on Saturday at Trelai fields, Plymouth Great Woods and Archer recreation ground in Ely and resulted in four offenders being caught, one of whom was given a £40 fine and had his quad bike confiscated.

Ely and Careau Communities First Sergeant Steve Clarke told the Western Mail that if you ride a motorbike on any land without the owner's permission, you are breaking the law.

"These off-road bikers riding illegally are putting people at risk, ruining the countryside and plaguing residents and we will prosecute," he continued.

Sgt Clarke stated that the police have been using the council's 4x4 vehicle to assist in capturing the riders and promised the police would have their own 4x4 from next year.

Police across Britain are warning parents not to buy motorcycles for their children this Christmas unless they have private land on which to use them.

Many local police forces have recently stepped up action against illegal motorcyclists, especially of the mini motorbike variety.
