MCI gives mini moto warning
The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) has warned parents to be "extra vigilant" if they plan to buy mini motorbikes for their children this year.
According to the group, the number of low quality mini moto copies has risen ten fold in the last three years to 70,000.
These machines are available from internet or mail order outlets, often for as little as £100, but can be lacking basic safety features such as rear chain guarding.

The MCI is concerned that some of these low cost manufacturers are producing copies, which to the untrained eye appear to be reputable makes but actually lack quality and after-sales support.
MCI's director of public affairs, Craig Carey-Clinch, commented: "While there are less well known makes that offer good value, in this sector price and branding are a guide to quality."
A bike from a well-known manufacturer will cost from £1,000 upwards and according to Mr Carey-Clinch: "Products being offered at prices well under those of the international makes must be considered with caution."
The MCI also went on to advise parents that the bikes should only be ridden on private property, and that using them illegally can result in a fine and has a detrimental effect on responsible riders.
