Off-road bike campaign hailed a success
Police have hailed the success of a day-long initiative to help promote responsible behaviour by off-road bikers in the Peak District National Park.
The second event of its kind, Operation Blackbrook sought to assist motorcycle insurance customers in reducing the impact of their hobby on local residents.
PC Kevin Lowe said the campaign had proved successful in reminding people in the area that anti-social biking would not be tolerated.
"We were able to talk to the bikers in a friendly way and give them the information they need to act responsibly," PC Lowe commented.
Officers also handed out leaflets to motorcyclists at popular meeting points detailing lawful routes and promoting responsible area.
National Park field services north area team manager Jenny Waller also praised the cooperation of the bikers involved, who she said were "really supportive" and respectful of the initiative and its aims.
Nonetheless, officials behind the campaign are keen to warn off-road bikers that they should stick to legal trails and byways and report any inconsiderate behaviour from other riders.
Last month, South Yorkshire Police reported that an off-road bike project launched in October had resulted in "a notable reduction" in the number of anti-social behaviour complaints received by residents.
