Ex-Superbike Champ to front safety drive

A former Superbike Champion has been enlisted to offer support for a new road safety initiative that could help cut the number of bike insurance claims on UK roads.

Steve Parrish, also known for his commentary on MotoGP racing, will be on hand to promote the Driving Standards Agency's (DSA) new Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) at Motorcycle Expo.

ERS, which aims to create improved safety for riders, was first showcased at the Motorcycle and Scooter Show at Birmingham's NEC last November.

The DSA is convinced that the campaign could help cut the number of deaths and serious accidents involving motorcyclists and is encouraging bikers to visit its stand at the show.

Also taking place at the NEC, the three-day Motorcycle Expo will run from January 18th-20th, with the DSA expecting a significant interest in its safety scheme following "a huge amount" of enquiries.

Road safety seems to be a top concern for the motorbike industry at present, with the Motor Cycle Industry Association recently launching a new of code of conduct for riders.

The guidance comes in response to the decision to open London's bus lanes to motorcyclists and is designed to ensure that riders are aware of the rules when using the routes.
