Nuisance riders 'will not be tolerated'

Motorbike insurance holders in Derbyshire are being warned that nuisance behaviour will not be tolerated on the region's roads.

Officers are looking to clamp down on those who ride in an inconsiderate or reckless manner following several complaints from residents.

Locals are concerned by the excessive speed and noise of some motorists, who could pose a danger to both themselves and other road users.

PC John Bointon of the Marston area team assured the community that officers are working to address their concerns and punish offenders.

"This type of nuisance behaviour is not acceptable and not only will we will continue to monitor drivers and issue warnings but we will seize vehicles if the warnings are ignored," he said.

One driver has already had his vehicle removed from the roads by officers after failing to acknowledge an initial warning, with the prospect of a minimum £172 payout to retrieve it.

PC Bointon also appealed to local residents to assist police in their efforts by reporting any instances of reckless driving in the area.

Authorities in Derbyshire this week hailed the success of a campaign to promote responsible behaviour among riders in the Peak District.

Police held meetings with off-road bikers to help reduce incidents of illegal riding and anti-social behaviour in the area.
