Motorcyclist calls for action over pothole dangers
A motorbike insurance holder in Aberdeen is calling for the council to take action to make life safer for riders in the area.
Hamish Leckie, a keen motorcyclist, described riding down some of the city's streets as being "like the dodgems" due to the number of potholes, the Press and Journal reports.
He claimed that this could cause serious danger for motorcyclists and cyclists in particular and called on the city council to address the problem.
Mr Leckie became particularly aware of the hazards when he was out driving his car.
The 52-year-old was forced to pay out more than £160 to replace the front tyre of his BMW vehicle after hitting one of the potholes.
But he is concerned that he could have paid a far higher price if he had been riding his motorbike that day.
"If I had been on my bike, who knows what would have happened?" he said.
"Cyclists and motorcyclists often use that road - something has to be done before someone goes over the hole, comes off their bike and dies," Mr Leckie warned.
This comes after the Institute of Advanced Motorists welcomed plans for a government consultation to help improve road safety and cut the number of deaths across the UK.
