Motorcycle club seeks funding for new track
A group of bike insurance customers are hoping to shake off local opposition to develop a new track in Cornwall.
The Tinners Motorcycle Club plans to have the new facility up and running by the middle of next year, the Cornish Guardian reports.
However, it must first gain planning permission from local authorities after some residents in the area expressed an objection to the development.
The club has also applied to the Awards for All Lottery grant scheme to provide funding of £9,000 for the project, with a decision expected within the next two months.
Despite the stumbling blocks, club chair Jon Stephens remains convinced that the track would be a success.
"The Tinners Motorcyle Club will manage the track on a volunteer rota system and all the manpower to build it is on standby," he told the newspaper.
"As soon as we get the go-ahead we will get to work and the track will be up and running for the community."
The facility will be built on an old clayworks site at Balleswidden Hill, and will include separate tracks for junior and senior riders.
This could help reduce the number of bikers riding on the roads in an antisocial manner - a problem which has hindered many areas across the UK recently.
