Police warning over recent bike thefts

Bikers are being urged to step up security measures in order to avoid an unwanted claim on their bike insurance.

Derbyshire Police have reported a recent rise in the number of thieves looking to force their way into garages and outbuildings at homes in the area.

Four residents across Chesterfield and north-east Derbyshire have had their outbuildings broken into during the last week, with thieves targeting motorbikes and bicycles that are often kept inside.

Two riders have been left facing the inconvenience of having to claim on their bike insurance as a result of the recent break-ins.

Criminals made off with a motocross bike from the garage of one house, while police are also seeking witnesses to the theft of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

PC Neil Taylor said the blue FXST Soft Tail Springer is "quite a distinctive motorcycle" and appealed for the public to keep an eye out.

"We would like to ask anyone who might have seen it, or been offered a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for sale to contact us," he stated.

This comes after police successfully apprehended seven thieves in Buckinghamshire who tried to make off with a number of motorbikes from a local business.
