Off-road accident 'was waiting to happen'

A community leader has expressed little sympathy for a young bike insurance holder who had to be airlifted to hospital following an accident.

According to the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph, the unnamed rider was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham by police helicopter after crashing his 125cc Honda off-road motorbike.

However, the former chairman of a cricket club based at Riddings Community Park, Alfreton, where the accident took place, refused to feel sorry for the victim.

Ivor Stevens said the accident had been "waiting to happen", with young riders in the area having caused havoc in the local community for some time.

"These lads ride their bikes around the park all the time. It's an absolute nuisance," Mr Stevens said.

As well as facing a likely claim on his bike insurance policy, the rider in question broke both his wrist and arm in the accident, which took place at around 00.30 GMT on Saturday, January 24th.

This comes after police in Nottinghamshire recently took steps to cut the number of bikers being seriously hurt or injured on the region's roads.

Officers carried out a month-long campaign in which they distributed close to 2,000 free safety packs, which included reflective backpacks and jackets.
