BMW Motorrad hails 'most successful year ever'
BMW Motorrad is celebrating its most successful year ever and is determined to make its vehicles even more accessible to riders over the next 12 months.
Adrian Roderick, general manager of the firm's UK operations, said the introduction of new models to the market had proved "an overwhelming success" in 2008.
BMW reported a 15 per cent year-on-year increase in sales with almost 6,000 bikes sold, making it the sixth best-selling motorcycle manufacturer in the UK.
The firm's T 1200 GS models proved particularly popular with motorbike insurance holders in the UK, accounting for more than 40 per cent of overall registrations.
This success comes despite figures released by the Motorcycle Industry Association that revealed an overall fall in the number of UK motorbike registrations for 2008.
Mr Roderick said the manufacturer is "optimistic" that its sales success will continue, with the launch of four new and affordable models set for this year.
"The interest in the brand continues to grow as we broaden our appeal to a wider audience and launch even more exciting and dynamic models in 2009," he commented.
Fellow manufacturer Yamaha has released two machines for 2009 that could have riders scrambling to renew their bike insurance policies.
The special editions of the popular X-Max 125 and 250, priced at £3,399 and £3,975 respectively, will arrive in dealerships shortly.
