Bike industry 'disappointed' with test fee increase
The Motor Cycle Industry (MCI) Association has criticised proposals to raise test fees for riders taking their examination in autumn this year.
Following a £20 increase in fees during 2008, another rise is to come into force for test candidates after September 5th 2009, which may leave motorcycle insurance customers feeling the pinch.
Steve Kenward, MCI chief executive, expressed his dissatisfaction with the plans.
"A fee increase of 30 per cent in just over a year will do nothing to help the motorcycle industry and training organisations, and could encourage a 'permanent learner' culture among learner riders, with all the safety issues that this implies," he said.
In addition, the MCI has expressed concern with regard to what it considers the low number of test locations set out for those sitting the first module under the new examination.
Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Mr Kenward said that the MCI is convinced there will not be enough sites and called upon the Driving Standards Agency to identify further sites as a matter of urgency.
The Motorcycle Rider Training Association also recently expressed concerns that the rise in test fees could impact upon illegal rising for those who find the increased prices beyond their reach.
