Bikers beware - More snow on the way

Further snowfall is being forecast for the rest of the week, motorcycle insurance policyholders may be interested to read.

Those road-users looking to avoid an insurance claim over the coming days should be aware that the Met Office believes a mixture of sleet, snow and rain will last into Friday before clearing.

Conditions are being closely monitored by the Highways Agency, which has staff out in force to keep the roads safe.

Director of network operations at the Highways Agency, Derek Turner, said that the organisation has a fleet of 500 winter service vehicles ready to be deployed as they are needed.

"We have seen a large number of minor accidents in the last few days and road users can help us by driving with care even where roads have been treated," he stated, going on to warn motorists that slippery roads can mean it takes up to ten times as long to stop compared with normal conditions.

"So watch your speed and leave more space from the vehicle in front," he added.

Motorists in Gloucestershire may want to be even more careful on the roads as the reports come in that the county is running low on salt for gritting.
