Youngsters to benefit from bike training course?

Plans have been outlined to creation of a motorbike training site in Spilsby, Lincolnshire.

A disused airfield has been earmarked for the development, which would be subject to planning permission, the Skegness Standard reports.

Spearheading the project is Peter McDowell, owner of local firm AE Wildman and Son Motorcycles, and Richard Rymer, who currently rents out the airfield.

The course would provide tuition for young people wanting to learn to ride motorbikes and scooters.

"It is a training facility where people can learn off and on-road skills," Mr McDowell told the publication.

"If we get the go ahead we will be fully insured and we will have an emphasis on making the site accessible at the right time, with noise restrictions."

Meanwhile, Mr Rymer said that he hoped the initiative would prove a good way of getting youngsters off the streets and help them "burn off a bit of steam".

In related news, motorcycle insurance policyholders hoping to take their test this year will face higher fees for sitting the exam from April 2009, marking a 50 per cent rise in just over a year, the Motorcycle Rider Training Association has claimed.
