British world supersport biker's memory honoured
Motorcycle insurance policyholders may be interested to read that a memorial is to be erected in honour of British World Supersport rider Craig Jones.
The 23-year-old from Cheshire was tipped as a potential world champion before his untimely death in August last year, when he fell from his bike during a Supersport World Championship race at Brands Hatch. At the time, he was in second position and vying for the lead.
To preserve his memory, a memorial tree and bench are being erected on the Greenbank estate where the biker grew up.
"Craig was very well thought of, and part of the reason we want to do this is that we wanted to show that anyone, regardless of background, can succeed if they are determined and motivated," commented police community support officer Barbara Billington.
The young biker - who raced for the Parkalgar Honda team - finished runner-up in British Supersport's 2005 leg, after being named 2003's young rider of the year.
In his youth he won the 1996 British Junior Mini-Moto Championship and the 1997 British Senior Mini-Moto Championship.
