Motorbike values 'not hit by credit crunch'

The value of used motorbikes continues to remain buoyant, figures have shown.

According to British Car Auctions (BCA), limited stock and sustained demand are responsible for ensuring that bike prices are not bitten in the credit crunch as people look for a cheaper alternative to the car.

The company has commented that bike values at a recent Peterborough event averaged 112 per cent of their guide prices, with Harley Davidson being particularly strong, motorcycle insurance policyholders may be interested to read.

"This simply underlines the current level of demand, which is exceptional and is outstripping supply," stated BCA Peterborough manager, Andrew McDonald.

He went on to say that a notable development was the increase in overseas buyers attending auctions.

"With the strength of the euro against the pound, these buyers were looking at export opportunities, particularly with the higher value sports bikes, tourers and performance machines," Mr McDonald commented.

The firm recently reported that the average price of a vehicle sold rose for a third consecutive month in January, with used car values creeping up by £300 compared with the figure for December.
