11-year-old biker seeks sponsorship
A young motorcyclist from Whitley Bay is seeking sponsorship to embark on a national career.
Motorcycle insurance policyholders may be interested to read that 11-year-old Marden Bridge Middle School pupil Billy Bolt is set to move up a level in the British Motorbike Trials.
The News Guardian reports that the youngster won the Youth Motorcycle Sporting Association (YMSA) Championship last year and also came runner-up in the Youth's C Class.
But the school-goer needs sponsorship to cover the cost of bikes and repairs, as well as petrol and overnight stays when he is competing.
According to Billy's mum Ingrid, the young rider is looking to compete against teenagers by moving up a class a year early.
"His aim for 2009 is to take the British Championship title and compete in the B Class in the YMSA," she said, adding that her son "has no fear and his pure determination will help him negotiate much harder sections and a lot bigger rocks".
However, even if he does not take first place, Billy will be happy if he comes in the top six at the championship, she concluded.
This year will see 15 championships take place in the YMSA league, with the first event taking place in Sherwood on March 1st.
