Bike thefts prompt police calls for information
Police in Devon are calling for information following a spate of motorbike thefts in Sidmouth that could have resulted in bike insurance claims for the owners.
Devon24 reports that a scooter and a motorbike were stolen from the area last weekend, while a blue and silver midi off-road bike was snatched last Friday by thieves who cut through the chain securing the vehicle.
The stolen scooter was later found damaged and the motorbike stolen at the weekend was later found with a broken ignition - potentially leading to costly bike insurance claims for the owners.
A police spokesperson commenting on the incidents called for members of the public with any information to come forward and aid the investigation.
"We are not linking these crimes at the present time but our officers are investigating them fully," they added.
According to findings from the Home Office, mopeds and scooters are more likely to be stolen than motorbikes. The age of a machine also has bearing on the likelihood that it will be stolen, with bikes about a year old the most likely to be snatched.
