Honda calls for more female bikers
Females are being urged to get on their bikes for International Women's Day on March 8th.
According to motorcycle firm Honda, 20 per cent of UK bikers are now female, with the firm aiming to dispel the myths that bike riders are all middle-aged, tattooed men.
"Motorcycling has traditionally been viewed as a very male interest and activity, but that is not actually the reality these days and it's so encouraging to see more and more women across the country taking to two wheels," commented Steve Martindale, general manager of Honda Motorcycles in the UK.
Female motorcycle insurance policyholders may use their bikes for various purposes, but Honda has found that 38 per cent of women bikers use their machine for daily transport, compared with 23 per cent of their male counterparts.
Mr Martindale added that it would be great to see more females making the most of the economic and social benefits riding a motorbike can bring, also helping to further dispel the myth that "biking is just for boys".
The Women's International Motorcycle Association (WIMA) is holding a Spring Fling event between April 24th and 26th in Norfolk, while female motorcycle insurance policyholders may also wish to attend the forthcoming British Motorcyclists Federation Show on May 16th and 17th where WIMA will have a stand.
