Young dad hopes for motorcycle insurance payout after theft

A young father from Staffordshire might be wishing he had increased his motorcycle insurance cover before the bike was stolen earlier this week.

The Sentinel reports that 21-year-old John Scarlett saved £1,600 from a part-time job to purchase a Honda Respol CBR 125 machine that would help him get to job interviews and find work.

Mr Scarlett was also hoping to set up his own delivery service using the bike, but his hopes were dashed this week when thieves made off with the machine.

As if to compound the situation, the father-of-one had third party motorcycle insurance and is unsure whether he will receive money to pay for a new bike.

Commenting on the incident, Mr Sacrlett said he was "devastated".

"It was my only form of transport. I have been using it to get to job interviews further away because there are no jobs in the area at the moment," he stated, adding that he is still paying off instalments on the bike.

"The thieves just think it's only a bike and I can claim on insurance but it was my ticket to a better life," he concluded.

Police in Sidmouth, Devon, recently called for information from the public relating to a spate of motorbike thefts in the area.
