Test centre closure leaves bikers outraged
Motorcycle insurance holders could be among the bikers in Worksop said to be outraged at plans to halt motorcycle testing at their local centre.
The Shireoaks facility is set to be closed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) on April 27th to coincide with the introduction of the new test, which can only be conducted at suitable centres with offroad facilities.
Arnold Ward, a local motorbike expert and organiser of Streetwise Training, told the Worksop Guardian: "This is a typical example of bureaucracy causing us not to get the full service that we deserve in this area."
Local bikers - potentially including those with motorcycle insurance plans - are campaigning against the closure of the centre, with their cause being joined by Nottingham county councillor Glynn Gilfoyle.
Mr Gilfoyle is the cabinet member for community safety and partnerships and is urging more people to get behind the campaign to keep the facility open.
"I am in total support of the campaign to keep motorcycle testing nearby. I think it is a mistake to stop this centre and I would encourage the DSA to rethink their decision," he told the publication.
It is a similar story in Grimsby, where bikers have been petitioning to keep their local test facility, with a concession recently being made allowing one part of the new test to stay at the centre.
