Staffs bikers to benefit from govt grant
Bikers in Staffordshire could be less likely to have to make bike insurance claims as the country benefits from a road safety funding injection.
The government has awarded £854,000 to the county to enhance road safety and cut motorcycle casualties.
Additionally, the county council has said that it will invest a further £1.5 million to fund a new high profile campaign aimed at increasing the safety of bikers, the Burton Mail reports.
Among the initiatives to be funded by the cash will be highways improvements such as warning signs, education to highlight the dangers to vulnerable road users, advisory events such as bikers' breakfasts and highlighting hazards that particularly apply to motorcycle riders, such as oil spills.
Cabinet member for road safety, Carol Dean at Staffordshire county council commented: "I am delighted that Staffordshire has been awarded such a fantastic amount of money to help to tackle the number of deaths and serious injuries among motorcyclists on our roads.
"This grant really will save lives and will prevent many tragedies that may otherwise have occurred."
The funding is part of a £3.5 million cash injection to improve road safety nationwide, with grants also made to Derbyshire, Warwickshire and Cheshire, among other areas.
