Bikers raise funds for charity work to continue

Motorbike insurance policyholders may have been among the bikers who rode into the West Country's Brent Knoll recently to host car boot sales for their charity.

The team of bikers are volunteers from a medical charity who raise money that allows them to transport medical supplies to Somerset hospitals, thisistheWestCountry.co.uk reports.

Fundraising activities organised by the Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service took place on Saturday and are set to become a regular fixture at Sanders GardenWorld, taking place every Friday until November.

Volunteer Allan Roberts commented: "We had such a good response from customers when we hosted car boot sales last year that we decided to organise them again this year."

He added: "We are all advanced motorcyclists who give a free out-of-hours' service to the NHS from 19:00 GMT until 07:00 GMT all weekend and bank holidays. Last year we saved the NHS around £90,000."

Mr Roberts went on to say that the organisation needs to raise about £20,000 annually to run and maintain the four bikes - costs that could include tax and motorcycle insurance payments.

Last month, the Paisley and Renfrew Extra reported that a time of bikers in Scotland are preparing for a round-the-world trip to raise money for charity Capability.
