Superbike champ to launch training initiative

Young bikers could be set to benefit from a new training initiative launched by a world superbike champion.

Four-times world champion Carl Fogarty will join police motorcyclists, road safety officers and firefighters in launching a scheme that could help bikers become safer and avoid costly bike insurance claims.

Motorcycle Training Matters will be launched on March 21st at Dunstable Fire Station, coinciding with road safety officers' announcement of new course 1st Ride for those planning to take their compulsory basic training test.

Bedfordshire Police are also set to use the event to promote the Ride Safe assessment scheme.

Fogarty - nicknamed Foggy - said: "Whatever reason you ride - for sport, leisure or to get to and from work - you've got to think about your own safety. And that is as much about attitude as skills."

He added that having the right attitude to safety is essential.

"That's the message I want to get across and why I'm really looking forward to joining riders on the 21st in Dunstable."

Next month the famous rider will be guest of honour at the International Classic Motorcycle Show at Stafford County Showground.
