Campaign to enhance biker safety
Bikers in Humberside who potentially risk more than a motorcycle insurance claim by speeding are the subject of a new police campaign.
Police in the area have launched Operation Achilles, which takes place every year and has seen motorbike fatalities reduce by 43 per cent since 2004 when it was first introduced, the Beverley Guardian reports.
Officers utilise equipment, resources and tools in their dangerous driving crackdown - which could help motorcycle insurance policyholders avoid having to make claims.
Police constable Glen Dennis, casualty reduction officer, told the publication that while collisions are decreasing, many still occur on roads in East Riding.
"Humberside Police are still dealing with a large number of unnecessary deaths and serious road traffic collisions in the East Riding and I am pleased to announce Humberside Police has joined forces with Safer Roads Humber and the East Riding council to raise the profile of this operation and educate road users and motorcyclists," he added.
A poster campaign is currently in operation in the area and the police helicopter is being used to crack down on dangerous motorists.
Meanwhile, the Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership recently urged bikers in the county to take greater care on the roads as warmer weather approaches, the Crewe Chronicle reports.
