Charity enhances safety for young riders

A charity set up in the wake of a young motorcyclist's death has raised money to enhance the safety of riders at British superbike events.

Motorcycle insurance policyholders may be interested to read that CJ Riders Fund (CJRF) was established after 14-year-old Chris Jones of Droitwich was fatally injured during a BSB race in Lincolnshire in 2005.

His parents Pam and Clive and sister Lucy set up the charity for the provision of medical equipment and to enhance safety standards at biking events, the Berrows Journal reports.

The family has raised more than £200,000 since establishing the charity and has also secured the supply and installation of soft barriers at BSB events to protect riders.

Stuart Higgs, BSB series director, commented: "Thanks to the CJRF we have been able to secure the future supply of soft barrier protection and look at prevention elements to complement the X-ray and other invaluable medical support services already made possible by the work of Pam Jones and the fund."

Mrs Jones, aged 50, said: "We still need some more funding so we would welcome any rich businessmen or companies getting involved; there are some fantastic sponsorship opportunities."

Plans are already underway to raise funds in the form of a Bowling Night, Cadwell Cycle Race and Sponsored Walk/Run at Oulton Park, Visordown.com reports.
