Thefts highlight need for bike cover

Bike insurance policyholders in Trimley, Felixstowe, might want to ramp up their bike security amid a spate of thefts.

The Evening Star reports that at least three machine thefts have taken place in the twin villages of St Mary and St Martin in recent weeks, with police believing that a criminal gang could be the perpetrators.

Member of Ipswich Motorcycle Club Trials rider Andy Coe returned home to St Martin to find that his Beta Rev3 270 and Honda TLR 200 models had been stolen from his shed, the publication reports.

Meanwhile, local man John Arnold had a custom-made £10,000 Harley Davidson machine stolen two weeks ago while resident Peter Highfield also had his motorbike - that was not protected by motorcycle insurance - stolen from a garage.

Mr Highfield commented: "We have also had a motorbike stolen from a garage, a competition bike that was not insured. It's time more was done about this kind of crime."

Police in Suffolk are urging residents to fit strong locks to garages, sheds and outbuildings in bid to reduce such incidents, advising bike riders to park their machines in well-lit, open areas.

The Home Office suggests that riders fit security Thatcham or SoldSecure-approved devices to their vehicles if necessary.
