Biaggi to join WSBK

The Italian motorcycle racer Max Biaggi is looking set to join the World Superbike (WSBK) championship, despite having previously told reporters that he would never do so.

Backing up the claims, Biaggi told the Sunday Mirror: "There is nowhere for me to go, I thought I'd have to retire.

"But I want to carry on racing at the highest possible level and World Superbikes is the only chance I have."

The news comes after Biaggi encountered a series of problems with the Repsol Honda team, which he joined for the 2005 season.

He experienced a terrible season, where instead of chasing podium places Biaggi found it difficult to make it into the top ten.

Frustrated by Honda Repsol team mate Nicky Hayden's successes, the man they call The Emperor publicly blamed the team for ruining his chances.

He was promptly banned from ever riding a Honda Repsol bike again and scared off a number of potential employers.

Rumour now has it that Biaggi will join the Suzuki Coroner team in this year's WSBK championship alongside Yukio Kagayama and current champ Troy Corser.

A suggestion that team boss Francis Batta supports: "Max would be interesting for us, but one month ago we signed Yukio Katayama for another year. Our sponsor Corona likes the idea of signing Biaggi, but the decision is to be made by Suzuki. For the moment, Japan hasn't said 'no'."
