Youngsters taught about motorbike safety
Potential future motorbike insurance policyholders in Avon and Somerset have been taught the importance of rider safety through use of a Scalextric circuit.
Youngsters at St Katherine's School in Pill were shown the dangers of the road by police, who asked pupils to demonstrate their motoring abilities using the toy track and cars.
They also learned about how motorbikes handle differently from cars and the best ways to avoid collisions by identifying hazards.
The students were then given a safety talk by police constable Dave Adams from the road's policing unit and police community support officer Laura Wheeler from the local neighbourhood beat team.
Following the talk, the youngsters were invited to show what they had learned by navigating their way around the circuit more safely.
"Although the youngsters are too young to drive at the moment, many of them are approaching 16 and may start thinking about riding mopeds in the near future," commented PC Adams.
"It is hoped that this lesson and others like it will provide young people with an awareness of the responsibility that comes with owning and using a vehicle."
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Hatton, Children at Happy Hours Nursery learned about road safety last week when PCSO from the constabulary Cathryn Turner came to visit.
