Bikers ride out to support armed forces

Bike insurance policyholders may have been among the estimated 3,000 bikers who took to the streets in Wales to support servicemen and women.

The Wrexham Chronicle reports that biking enthusiasts got on their machines earlier this week for the first Wings Ride Out event, which was organised by the RAF Association to highlight support for the armed forces.

Bikers embarked upon the journey in Llangollen, Wrexham and Mid Wales, travelling on through Leicester and Birmingham, where they were joined by other motorcyclists.

The journey came to a halt at Shrewsbury Town Football Club, before bikers set off again with Easter eggs and bunnies to RAF Cosford, the publication states.

Organiser Dougie Bancroft commented that more than 3,000 bikers rode out at the event.

"It was a wonderful turn-out and we must have raised more than £20,000 for the welfare of our servicemen and women," he added.

All the gifts and Easter eggs collected were handed out to the families of servicemen and women who are currently working, many of whom have had postings in war-torn areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

In related news, two motorbike groups in Southport recently delivered Easter eggs to a nursing home supported by the Motor and Allied Traders Benevolent Fund, the Southport Visitor reports.
