Ex-deputy head wise to ride 50-year-old bike?

A former deputy headmaster from Harrogate is getting on his bike in aid of charity.

David Andrews might want to invest in bike insurance for the 2,000 mile journey he plans to make on a 50-year-old motorbike.

Mr Andrews, who taught at Harrogate Ladies' College for 30 years, plans to make the journey to John O'Groats and back next month in aid of the Parkinson's Disease Society, the Harrogate Advertiser reports.

Around 30 members of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club are set to embark upon the ride, which takes place every two years.

"I have always had an interest in motorbikes and old bikes in particular. Having retired from the Ladies' College last year it is the first time I fancied a long run," the keen biker stated.

He added that he hoped to be away while his wife renovates the kitchen.

The bikers will be followed by a lorry during the trip in case back-up is needed.

Later this month, female bikers in Scotland will embark upon a charity ride to raise money for Clan's pink ladies, who work with people affected by breast cancer, the Press and Journal reports.
