Bikers 'should consider safety on track days'
Bikers hoping to avoid motorbike insurance claims on the road this year might want to ensure their tyre tread depth is of a legal standard.
Riders are being urged to check the depth of their tread along with making sure their tyre pressure is correct before heading out on journeys.
TyreSafe is warning that many bikers may be attending track days this summer and may fail to consider their tread depth after the day's events.
"Motorcycle tyres work harder on the track to support the bike and its rider due to the harsh acceleration, braking and cornering that typically takes place," explains Stuart Jackson, chairman of the organisation.
He went on to say that before embarking on a journey, riders should ensure that their wheels have substantial tread and check for any bulges and cuts.
"Riders should also consider the importance of tyre pressure before they ride home from a track day," Mr Jackson added, stating that many bikers reduce their tyre pressure at the track to improve grip.
April is Bike Tyre Safety Month and as such, TyreSafe is giving away a number of 90-degree tyre valve extensions for the first 300 people who sign up for its e-newsletter.
