Record year for BMW bikes
BMW Motorrad UK enjoyed record sales of its motorcycles in the UK last year, according to newly published figures.
The Motorcycle Industry Association's (MCIA) report claims BMW sold 5,614 new motorcycles last year, well above its target of 5,000, and 20.9 per cent up on 2004 levels.
The launch of bikes such as the 163bhp K1200 R roadster and the HP2 Enduro has seen the company introduce light and powerful vehicles to the industry, a move that has been rewarded by improved sales.

BMW Motorrad UK's general manager, Adrian Roderick, said: "In re-evaluating all traditional areas of activity and communicating a brand new market positioning statement through the introduction of five fantastic new motorcycles, we have been successful in bringing a new focus to the industry."
The UK motorcycle market halted four years of rapid decline in sales during 2005, according to the association, with sales down by only one per cent on the previous year.
Craig Carey-Clinch, MCIA's director of public affairs said: "The MCIA is optimistic about the future of motorcycling in Britain. Motorcycle technology is constantly evolving and the 2006 models are cleaner and more user-friendly than ever."
BMW is set to launch five new bikes in the UK this spring.
