Tyre pressure checks vital for motorcycling season

A tyre manufacturer is urging bikers to make vital wheel checks this bank holiday weekend to avoid problems - and potential bike insurance claims.

According to Avon Tyres, the coming weekend usually heralds the start of the summer motorcycling season.

But before riders get on their bikes, the firm advises they check their tyre pressure and make a habit of doing so.

"During testing for our range of tyres - including our new VP2 Sports tyres - we have seen how under-pressure tyres can degrade handling, affect steering, as well as leading to increased and un-even tyre wear," commented Avon Tyres' technical product manager for motorcycle tyres Peter McNally.

He went on to say that after a winter of inactivity; the tyres may be underinflated, potentially putting the rider at risk.

To avoid such risks, the wheel's connection with the road needs to be perfect, Mr McNally concluded.

Recently, organisation TyreSafe called upon experienced bikers to help their less-learned counterparts become safer on the road.
