Dealers turn to part-exchange to cope with used bike demand
Motorcycle dealers are increasingly turning to part-exchange deals in an attempt to rebuild stocks of used models, it has been revealed.
According to Glass's, which publishes Glass's Guide to Motorcycle Values, traffic to showrooms has been increasing while the number of used bikes available has been declining.
In anticipation of further demand, dealerships are looking at part-exchange machines to be able to satisfy the motorcycle insurance policyholders who wish to invest in a second-hand model.
"Franchised motorcycle dealers are making the most of their ability to offer attractive prices for part-exchanges, provided that at least some margin is retained on the new machine, in order to increase their intake of used stock," commented Guide editor Randal Thomas.
He went on to say that the company has recorded a firm increase in trade values as a shortage of good quality used stock becomes harder to come by.
Figures from the Motor Cycle Industry Association recently highlighted that registrations of naked and custom machines, as well as models offering between 651 and 1000cc, have all seen increased registrations in recent months, bucking the downward trend experienced in other sectors and the car industry.
