Biker calls upon others to slow down
An experienced biker is urging riders in Grimsby to slow down as police launch the second year of Operation Stealth.
The initiative aims to reduce the number of speed-related incidents taking place on Lincolnshire's roads each year, the Grimsby Telegraph reports.
Biker Inspector McManus recently outlined how an accident last October in which a car pulled out in front of him left him needing seven operations and skin grafts.
"If it was not for the motorcycle training I have received, it would have been a lot more serious," he commented.
Sergeant Dave Kay stated that the operation is aimed at people who "want to use Lincolnshire's roads as a racetrack" - potentially putting their own and others' motorcycle insurance premiums at risk.
Meanwhile, Assistant chief constable Peter Davies said that the initiative is in no way a means of alienating the biking community.
"We're not aiming to catch bikers out, but want to make them think carefully about their speed and riding and the potential consequences of behaving irresponsibly," he commented.
East Sussex county council urges bikers to enhance their safety by making themselves visible and wearing protective clothing.
