A difficult round of the British Superbike and Supersport Championships at Donington Park saw a mixture of happiness and disappointment for the HM Plant Honda and Padgetts Honda teams.

In the British Supersport class, Steve Plater took the victory at the chequered flag despite starting the race in ninth position and now leads the championship by three points.

Less fortunate results were achieved in the British Superbike class, however, as Josh Brookes collided with Sylvain Guintoli in the opening race.

The Frenchman sustained a broken right tibia and fibula and resulted in a one-race ban for Brookes, who may have been grateful for his bike insurance policy after the collision.

Commenting on the incident, Brookes said that more clarity is needed in relation to what happened to cause the crash.

"It's unfortunate Guintoli was caught up in the incident and I really wish him a quick recovery," he added.

Meanwhile, teammate Glen Richards missed out on the podium, finishing in fourth and fifth place during the two races.

Havier Beltran, HM Plant Honda team manager, stated: "With Glen and Josh in the Superbike class, we know that we are not where the bikes or riders are capable of being, but we know what direction we need take to get the riders and machines working well together and get us back on pace with the frontrunners."
