Relentless Suzuki MX rider Martin Barr has achieved his first British Championship victory of the season in Shropshire.

The racer ended a day of action at Hawkstone Park in overall third place during the fourth round of the Maxxis British Motocross MX2 Championship.

Bike insurance policyholders may have been delighted to see Barr take the win in the first race of the day by just under three seconds, although the Irishman only managed eighth place in the second race.

"It was a tough race and one of those wins you know you've earned. My start was good but not perfect, so I had to fight from the off," he commented.

Barr added that his RM-Z model ran without a hitch, allowing him to challenge competitor Scott Elderfield to take the win.

Team manager Rob Hooper said that Barr "rode incredibly well in the first race and reminded us all of what he is capable of".

Meanwhile, Suzuki MVR-D riders Carl Nunn and James Noble achieved positive results in the MX1 championship, finishing in the top ten in each race.

Incidents in race one, however, saw Suzuki riders Scott Columb and Jamie Law finish in 16th and 15th place respectively.
