Bike insurance policyholders who witnessed the accident during the second TT sidecar race last week may be able to end their speculation as an official statement has been issued.

Plant Honda has said that sidecar rider Nick Crowe and passenger Mark Cox were leading the race at Ballacob on June 10th when they collided with a small animal, thought to have been a hare.

Both men were ejected form the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.

Crowe has various serious limb injuries but is said to be quite aware when awake, which has encouraged his family.

Cox is described as being in a stable condition, although the injuries to his lower limbs require operating on further.

"Both families would like to express their deepest thanks and appreciation to the intensive care units and all nursing staff, surgeons, emergency services, course marshals and public spectators who helped at the scene of the accident, as well as the numerous people who have offered overwhelming help, support and well-wishes over the last week," the statement reads.

A motorcycle sidecar racer from Lancashire was recently also involved in a crash in Merseyside. Former champion Dave Holden sustained serious injuries during the incident, in which both his lungs were punctured, the Blackburn Citizen reports.
