Ducati dominates last days at Sepang

Ducati Marlboro showed its superiority over the majority of its MotoGP rivals during the final two days of testing at Sepang in Malaysia.

The team's riders, Sete Gibernau and Loris Capirossi, set the best lap times on Tuesday and Wednesday on both qualifying and race tyres, having been just fifth and seventh fastest on Monday.

Gibernau set an unofficial lap record on Tuesday, 0.17 seconds ahead of his teammate, before improving on his time on the Wednesday by 0.63 seconds with a 2 minutes 1.03 seconds lap time on qualifying tyres.

"Today I felt pretty good on the GP6 and I also wanted to do a few laps on the GP5, which I have never tried, to make a back-to-back test," said Gibernau.

"This confirmed what Loris, who knows the bike well, had said yesterday: the GP5 is a good bike but the GP6 has more development potential and from now onwards we are only going to use that bike."

Capirossi was the fastest on race tyres, setting a time of 2 minutes 1.64 seconds compared with a 2 minutes 1.83 seconds for Gibernau.

Marco Melandri of Honda was third on the final day, four-tenths down on Capirossi's qualifying tyre pace, with 250cc world champion rookie Dani Pedrosa a further four-tenths back.

Honda, Kawasaki and Ducati will all test at Phillip Island in Australia from January 31st to February 2nd, while Yamaha and Suzuki will head to Qatar from February 6th to 8th.
