Motorbike insurance customers have been urged to consider the financial impact on their policies when customizing their vehicles.
One expert has advised that once changes have been made to a vehicle the insurance broker needs to be informed as the type of cover needed may be different.
Failing to do so could invalidate motorists' insurance policies thereby leaving them with a large bill to pick up in the event of an accident.
Lisa Kozik, claims manager at Markel American Insurance Company, issued the advice, warning bike insurance customers of the practicalities of customizing, which she said can help vehicle owners keep their ride feeling new.
She added: "We see far too many people who don't properly insure their accessories.
"They often don't understand that an accessory is anything that is added to the motorcycle after it leaves the factory and they fall under a different type of coverage."
Ms Kozik explained that accessory coverage can be "affordable" and save motorbike insurance customers a lot of hassle in the long-run.
Meanwhile, two US celebrities have revealed their penchant for motorbikes this week; both Eva Longoria and Brad Pitt were snapped in LA on a two-wheel drive, reports the Daily Mail.
