Following in the steps of the national scappage scheme, a local BMW dealership has also begun to offer a similar deal on its motorbikes.

In news that could be of interest to those with bike insurance in the south-east, Vines of Guildford will receive £1,000 off the list price of a motorbike if the purchaser is offering a bike of over five year of age in return.

Vines, which was established in 1980, states that any deal must be completed before November 1st of this year and that a number of models will not be included on the new bike for old scheme.

These include the BMW R1200GS and a model uniquely offered by the dealership - the Adventure spec F800GS.

In addition to the bikes, Vines also offers two years warranty and roadside assistance on new machines.

Bikes that are currently in stock include the HP Megamoto and the G650 Xcountry.

The government introduced the car scrappage scheme earlier this year following its announcement in the April Budget.

The latest figures show that over 60,000 new car orders have been placed as a result of the scheme.

Speaking last month, Lord Peter Mandelson said: "Consumers know a good deal when they see one. These figures speak for themselves. Car manufacturers continue to report on the success of the scheme with rising sales. It’s the boost that the industry needs."
